More ideas about going green, going local, and changing the world
Feb 12I came up with a few more ideas since February 1st:
– Bakery
– Vineyard (especially on that steep hillside!)
– Shelter for new refugees or battered women (grant money may be available)
– Combining globalism with the garden idea. Take a look at this link about the International Rescue Committee (IRC) of Charlottesville’s “New Roots” Garden Project: http://www.rescue.org/us-program/us-charlottesville-va/irc-garden-project-new-roots-grows. Isn’t that fantastic? I think it is something we should seriously consider. I don’t know anyone over at the IRC personally, but I would be happy to join in talking to them and helping find grants or donors to transform 480 E. Rio Rd. into the second plot of land for the project.

Thanks Julie,
You’re the first neighbor (person) to add your comment in our blog. I did as you suggested and followed your link. Yes, I agree, IRC does some great work and a grant and garden space for them seems well worth exploring.
Have you visited Harvest Shelter? They have a facebook page and the owner… founder is our neighbor, Jim, who spoke about Harvest Shelter at our Feb 1 meeting. http://www.harvestshelter.org/mission.htm
