Doug,
The designs look great!
Chad, thank you for the positive evaluation! What’s so great about the designs?
Douglas –
Very interesting site plan. I especially like the way the proposed access/egress via the new internal road at the north end allows the property to open up and widen as you come in. Layout of the buildings strikes me as intelligent, uncluttered – and the entire community is well buffered by maintaining the tree stands along Rio Road. Sorry I can’t make the meeting today, but I’ll continue to follow your progress. Also, have not looked closely at the dwelling floor plans, but will do this. Dimensions, shapes are intriguing.
Hi Dan, thank you very much for your supportive comments. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at the plans. We invested a lot of our time at the meeting discussing access and egress and it remains a critical issue that will require more study and discussion with our neighbors.
More soon.
I really like this new design. The thing that jumps out at me that I’d suggest changing is to take the two parking areas and road out of the center of the community. Unless there’s no other place to put them for some reason I think there’s every reason not to have cars and car infrastructure in the middle of the community.
Sky, thank you for your comments! I understand your concern about cars and parking. There is an effort to balance ease of living and eco-friendliness. I do like the idea of a community w/o cars or at least the motor vehicles kept away from the living, playing, natural areas. Another thought is having a garage lift, which could be a Greater Stonehenge community asset. There is the intention of making the parking areas beautiful and I really like the idea of each parking spot having a big solar panel above it, harvesting energy to share and providing some protection to the vehicle. I certainly support the idea of limited car use and auto sharing. Maybe the one parking lot at the North end of the property would be enough for the entire village. The other spots could become grazing area for animals, if we have animals. I understand the County requires a certain number of parking spots per unit and a turn around, which would allow a fire truck to turn around.
Doug,
What an exciting design for this project! I haven’t had a chance yet to examine the details, but the overall plan and location look very promising. I will bookmark this site so I can continue to follow the progress.
Funny, many years ago my late husband and I explored the possibility of buying a property at that location. How very different this project looks compared to what we found then.
JJ, Thank you for visiting Greater Stonehenge and for your encouraging words. We NEED to have a meeting SOON. I’ll be sure to invite you and hope you’ll be able to add your voice…!
Egad, Doug, was there a meetin yet? Did I miss it? Please let me know as I would be interested in learing more.
JJ, Thank you for your continued interest! You haven’t missed any recent meetings. We are so, OVERDUE to have a meeting for interested folks. This is a high priority for 2012. We don’t have a date yet. We’ll be sure to let you know. Douglas
OK, at least I haven’t missed anything. Do keep me posted!
JJ
This is very interesting, will you post any kind of minutes from the meeting last night?
First of all, I’m very excited to see everyone here getting excited and making headway on a really great style of community. I have been a fan of Ithaca’s (a city not so different from our own) Eco Village for a while now and their under construction TREE development is impressive with its co-generation, utility loop, and solar design. I’m surprised that I just discovered your efforts!
I have been yearning for a different style of suburban development that focuses on community, health and sustainability rather than status symbols, fossil fuel, and close mindedness. Suburban landscapes aren’t going away, but I believe it is everyone’s duty to make them as beautiful and thoughtful as possible.
Now onto specifics:
The greater Stonehenge location is a wonderful choice for this kind of community, the access to downtown is good, the taxes are low, and the aging infrastructure of the immediate community could use a bolster from a newcomer that embraces the existing rather than turning its back on it.
I’d love to see the “Out of Bounds” property at the corner of Barracks and Georgetown get into creative and thoughtful hands as well.
The hexagon townhome concept is very cool, especially the top floor balconies. I’m sure there is a great deal of details to be worked out in the design and I look forward to seeing the progress.
Chris
Chris,
Thank you so much for your encouraging, honoring, and kind words.
We are planning another potluck, Sunday, next May 20 at another property being considered for creative and thoughtful development too.
I’ll email an invitation to you.
I look forward to meeting you.
Warmly, Douglas
